History
Gulf Gate Estates is a residential community located just south of the city of Sarasota in Sarasota County, FL. Development of the area accelerated in the mid 20th century as Sarasota expanded inland and families sought suburban neighborhoods with convenient access to the coast. The community was designed with a strong emphasis on residential living, featuring single family homes, local shopping areas, and easy connections to major roads such as U.S. Route 41.
The name Gulf Gate reflects the community’s proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and its role as a gateway between Sarasota and nearby barrier islands.
